Description Detail. Methodist Episcopal General Conference, held at Napanee, August, 1874

Rev. Joseph Young was well-known in eastern Ontario. He was born in Augusta township near Brockville on Dec. 23, 1843, of Scottish ancestry. His parents were William Young and Sylvia Pyke.

By 1870, he was stationed in Stormont county (Osnabrook?) where his oldest son, George Sills Young, was born, and where he can be found on the 1871 census. In the late 1870's, he and his wife, Margaret Wright, were in Picton, and a child was born there in 1879. By 1881, they had moved again, and were in Kingston. In the late 1880's, they returned to Picton and the family shows in Picton on the 1891 census. In 1901, they were in Allandale, in Simcoe county.

At the time of the First War, or just before, Rev. Young retired and the family moved to Toronto. Rev. Young died in Toronto on July 30, 1926 at the age of 82. He is only 31 years old on this photograph.
