Detail. Methodist Episcopal General Conference, held at Napanee, August, 1874 Rev. Stephen Card was born on July 13, 1838, in Ontario, probably in Haldimand township in Northumberland county. He was the son of Christian Card and Phoebe Soles, an American couple who had moved to Ontario. During the early 1870's, Rev. Card was stationed in Clarke township, West Durham county. Rev. Card succeded Rev. John Bell as Methodist Epicopal minister for Napanee, and can be found there on the 1881 census. His capabilities were noticed, and he was offered the post as minister at the Reformatory for Boys at Penetanguishine. He moved to Penetang before 1891 and was still there in 1901. Rev. Card married Sarah Mann in 1863 when he was 24 and she 18. They had two children. William became a successful barrister. Eva opened a boarding house on the Market in Brockville, and upon Reverend Card's retirement, he and Sarah moved in with her. They were there in 1911. Rev. Card died in Brockville on May 26th, 1915.
